History

In 1965, Pierre Chapo responded to a commission by designing the R 16, an unusual piece that stays true to the Chapo spirit. To create the row of cupboards, Pierre Chapo studied the way a piece of furniture measuring almost 3 meters was formed.

This type of furniture tended to taper in those days, to give a more lightweight impression in the space, but here Pierre Chapo designed an atypical piece with golden proportions. The R 16 is sculptural, almost totemic. The sobriety of the door frames and the tablets of the panels let the wood grain express itself to the full. This large-volume sideboard stands on four solid feet that intersect the piece vertically, rising just above the top in the front. The visible assembly and the asymmetric door contribute to an aesthetic hovering between strength and serenity. R16 is the most voluminous piece in the Chapo catalog.
