SAHARA ARMCHAIR

Starting in 1964, the “48×72” assembly system enabled Pierre Chapo to expand his catalogue. He drew on the endless combinations offered by this construction method to create furniture of remarkable skill and refinement, as demonstrated by the S 10 armchair, which quickly became one of the flagship models of the Chapo gallery. Pierre Chapo designed the S 10—no doubt a nod to Le Corbusier’s LC2—which met with immediate success when it was first presented to the public. Fully dismantlable, the S 10 masterfully combines the paradox of a complex assembly with the simplicity of a clean, straightforward line. The armchair’s frame supports two stretched leather panels, while the armrests are made of leather bands suspended from the seat’s uprights. The entire structure is held together by the tension created by the leather seat, secured to the frame by braided linen cords.
All models feature armrests in natural leather straps, a swivel backrest, and a seat and back in raw linen canvas or thick leather.
