S12

STOOL

Designed in 1966, the S11 chair was born from the desire to create a truly innovative piece of furniture using a pioneering technique: the ‘48×72’ assembly method. The S11 chair takes up some of the technical features of the S10, such as the interlocking system and the stretched leather, which ensure the solidity of the structure. The S11 stands out through the sophisticated aesthetic of its interlaced leathers, which extend to each side of the chair as well as to the front and back, making the structure taller and more robust than that of the S10. The technical complexity of the interwoven seat is essential to the object’s aesthetic balance as well as its functionality. With its substantial appearance, the S11 illustrates the range of forms made possible by the ‘48×72’ assembly system and adapts to nearly all Chapo tables and desks. The three visible ‘48×72’ wooden pieces at the corners of the chair, along with the choice to present the ‘72’ side facing forward, enhance the object’s stability and give it an architectural presence. The S11 is considered the first truly sculptural chair, a direction Pierre Chapo would continue to develop in the chairs he designed thereafter.
These seats contain no glue or metal parts, making them slightly flexible yet exceptionally sturdy. The seat and backrest are available in natural linen canvas or thick leather.
