Pierre Chapo discovered Alsatian architecture, the wooden frameworks of traditional half-timbered houses, and the time-tested domestic furniture they contained. The home’s interior is a vital space in winter, and the large dining table forms the heart of the house, where family and friends gather for meals and evening gatherings. The “Alsatian chair” caught Chapo’s attention, inspiring him to modernize this traditional piece. In 1972, he designed the S 28 chair. He preserved the essential characteristics of the “Alsatian chair” while stripping away its ornamental decor. The backrest is shaped from a single piece of wood, the seat is solid and flat, and the four legs splay outward. Each wooden surface is carefully and precisely shaped. Decidedly modern, the S 28 chair retains both the silhouette and the comfort of the traditional “Alsatian chair".
The folder is shovel-shaped, slightly curved seat.
