Contrary to what one might think, it is very comfortable. At the end of the 1970s, Pierre Chapo’s research took a new direction. In 1979, he introduced one of the most accomplished designer chairs of the 20th century: the S 45, also called “Chlacc,” named after the patented process used to manufacture furniture of this type. The S 45 is made of numerous small wooden sections, joined end-to-end and glued together. This technique makes it possible to create a thin, lightweight structure with graceful, elongated lines. The S 45 chair is technically and conceptually complex to produce. The sitter’s weight rests primarily on the crossing of the “Chlacc” legs, and the strength of the backrest is ensured by its anchoring into the two rear legs, which are inclined at more than 45 degrees. Eleven joinery points connect the seven sections that make up the chair. The S 45 is one of the most sculptural creations in the Chapo catalogue, and its overall silhouette is reminiscent of the iconic tower in the capital where its creator was born.
CHLACC, a patented process that opens up possibilities of light, strong and dynamic, structures in harmonious contrast with our furniture.
